Cambridge Community Fund

Donations to the Cambridge Community Fund support charitable activities and projects in the town, as identified by a team of locals.

Do you love Cambridge and want to help make it an even better place to live and visit? Do you want to give back to this delightful small-town community that has given you so much?

Cambridge looking after its own needs is the driving principle for the Cambridge Community Fund established by the Cambridge Community Charitable Trust and Momentum Waikato.

This Cambridge-based initiative is championed by local identities Kevin Burgess and David Cooney.

“The Cambridge Community Fund is a cost-effective way of leaving a legacy forever to our town,” says Kevin, who is well known locally as a pharmacist, trustee on various boards and athletics supporter.

“Joining with the region’s community foundation means we’re taking advantage of its scale of operation, so the investment returns generated for doing good here are greater over time than we could achieve alone as a single trust. Why re-invent the wheel for a small town?”

Momentum’s ‘smarter giving’ model means donations or bequests to the Cambridge Community Fund will still be supporting the town and it community for many decades to come.

An advisory and distribution committee made up of locals decides annually how the Fund’s investment income will be granted out. Specific funding priorities will develop over time, but the overall vision is clear.

“We want the Fund to help Cambridge to take care of its own, to build community equity, and benefit our future generations to come,” says Kevin.

This could take many forms, from capital projects for the community, to scholarships for local students to develop skills that they then bring home, from the general to the specific. Donations to the Fund grow income that benefits the Cambridge community.
