Cambridge Community Fund is a happening thing!
Published on 10 August, 2025
It is nearly a year since the Cambridge Community Fund was launched, and it is now fully established and being actively promoted locally by its Fund Champions Kevin Burgess and David Cooney.
“The Cambridge Community Fund has certainly received a very warm and encouraging welcome from the Cambridge community,” says David.
“There is a very high level of interest and support in Cambridge, with many potential donors requesting information.”
The Cambridge Community Fund was launched at a well-attended event at Te Awa Retirement Village last October. That day Kevin said the Fund would be a cost-effective way for local people to leave a legacy forever to their town.
“Money donated will benefit Cambridge forever, with the partnership with Momentum providing credibility, collegial knowledge, and back office and governance support.”

An early boost came late last year when the local Lyceum House ladies’ club, which was closing down, decided to gift one-fifth of its ‘estate’ to the Cambridge Community Fund, with a preference that the investment income generated by their donation be used to support women’s education in Cambridge.
Then in autumn this year, we published the first Cambridge Community Fund promo pamphlet, providing the Fund Champions with an informative prompt to leave with interested folks.
Kevin and David are now in the process of meeting with local professional advisers, such as lawyers, accountants and investment advisors, who are keen to discuss the fund with their clients.
If you’re in a relevant profession in Cambridge and want to have chat with them about this new funding initiative for the town, please do get in touch.
Local ‘Ambassadors’ are also being sought to provide additional on-the-ground support and promotion of the Fund.
The Cambridge Community Fund is the first ‘place-based fund’ established at Momentum Waikato, with the intention that similar philanthropic investment funds will eventually be established for every district in the Waikato region we cover. Look out for upcoming news on funds for the Coromandel.
