How it works

Donating to the Fund

The Waikato Women’s Fund is a philanthropic investment fund managed by Momentum Waikato Community Foundation. Every donation, no matter the size, is added to the invested pool. Most of the annual investment income is then granted to projects that support women and girls in the Waikato, while the rest is reinvested to ensure the Fund keeps growing and creating long-term impact.

By giving together, members build a sustainable resource that empowers women and girls now and for future generations.

Applying or nominating for support

Each year, usually in the third quarter, Fund members are invited to nominate groups or initiatives they would like to see supported. To be considered, the proposed activity must significantly benefit women and girls. The nominated organisation doesn’t need to work exclusively with women and girls, but women and girls must be a clear and principal focus of the initiative.

Being a Member of the Fund

Everyone who donates becomes a Member of the Waikato Women’s Fund. Membership means joining a giving circle - a collective that shares ideas, nominates potential grant recipients, and helps shape the Fund’s direction.

Leadership is provided by the Circle of Kaitiaki, who hold the Fund’s values and ensure decisions are made collaboratively, inclusively, and in line with our kaupapa.

How the Fund decides about grants

Grant decisions are guided by the Fund’s values and facilitated by the Circle of Kaitiaki. Members nominate organisations and initiatives, and the Circle works with the wider membership to create a shortlist and shape the granting process. The number and size of grants may vary from year to year, depending on investment income and community needs, but every decision is grounded in the same purpose: to make a meaningful difference for women and girls in the Waikato.

As a member of the Waikato Women’s Fund you help determine where grants are made.

Various ways you can support the Waikato Women's Fund

However you do it, your support for the Waikato Women’s Fund is always welcomed and celebrated.

One-off donations

Every single donation to the Waikato Women’s Fund is a much-welcomed act of generosity that will go a long way towards helping women and girls.

Payroll giving

Payroll giving is a great way to give regularly - you immediately receive a tax credit via your PAYE payable, and there's no need to keep records for the end of the tax year. Speak to your employer about donating, and then see, complete and send us these Employee and Employer Payroll Giving forms.

Recurring donations

Making weekly, fortnightly or monthly donations, ideally via Automatic Payment, allows us to plan ahead, address needs as they arise, and generally be more effective.

Corporate giving

Your business can back the Waikato Women’s Fund with an annual donation, giving your company the opportunity to show your support for Waikato women and girls. Talk to us about making this happen.

Bequests

To help support women and girls forever, you can also consider making a bequest to the Waikato Women’s Fund in your Will. For more information, contact us
